On this, I haven't found the results of "Auto" to be too bad, but I kind of wish you could set this specialization on a student-by-student basis, because maybe I really need one geologist now to fill out a work shift, but I don't want to forget I set it to Geologist, and have a whole crop of students graduate at once when I stop paying attention for half a second, now all of a sudden I've got four more Geologists than I needed.Īnyway, I could rant about little things like this forever. I'd guess about five Sols? Just a complete guess, really, because this game lacks notifications for when important things happen in your colony (something Banished had, which was super useful).Īnd on top of /that/, your only options are to request one specific specialization or set it to auto, and hope that the game does right by you. Non specialists should only go to University if service role shifts are already staffed by at least one other person, and that person is a non specialist.Īlso, on top of weirdness like this and the fact that colonists will happily leave service buildings completely /unstaffed/ in order to attend University (and dropping the Comfort level of the entire dome), I don't believe there's any indicator of how far along students are in their studies. For example, an engineer goes to work at the diner rather than the Machine Parts factory just so that a non specialist can go to University. ![]() With that said, like many of the colonist management algorithms in this game, some weird stuff happens. So it's nice I can just not think about it a bit and let education sort it out. My past couple of colonist runs, I went with mostly non-specialists, because I needed them for the service roles, and honestly, colonist management is a PITA in this game, and it's very difficult to figure out what specializations you need (you really can't go by the raw numbers the game gives you, because it includes a lot of colonists who aren't in the workforce). With that said, however, I did hope we could get some discussion about this, because when I unlocked the tech and built it, I thought it was going to be a game changer. ![]() You simply make sure they work there, preferly youth or adults as the training time is long.īumping this thread to agree with this poster about a lot of the info here being bad, as you definitely do not have to have a whole education pipeline to get into Martian University. It just takes a looooong time, not sure about the time, but i waited alot of Sols for the first one to be educated. There are no "professors" and it does not have to go from kid to school to youth to university etc. The Martian University educates your unspecialized workforce, if they work there.
